One of the first things that people moving to the Venice area notice is that storage is sometimes a bit lacking. South Florida homes do not have basements, and our attics only offer limited storage solutions. While newer homes are constructed with large walk-in closets and pantries, some of the older, more traditional homes don’t offer a lot of space for keeping our things.

While renovating your kitchen, you may wish to consider some of these creative storage solutions to help keep your home neat and clutter free.

  • Choose Your Island: Kitchen islands are popular for additional surface space. They can offer prep space, seating capacity, or even an additional cooktop. However, you can also choose a kitchen island that has multiple drawers for storing utensils, towels or plastic cups for the kids; or leave the entire space underneath open for small appliances, large pots, or anything else which takes up cabinet space.
  • Utilize Empty Space: There is some dead space next to appliances and at the end of counters which can be used to add slim pull out drawers for cooking implements, spices, or pot lids.
  • Cutting Board Slots: Behind traditional cabinet doors you can build all types of storage solutions. One of our favorites is to take a large cabinet and separate into thin, vertical sections which can easily store your cutting boards and platters.
  • Hideaways: Instead of placing your toaster oven, coffee pot and microwave out on the counter top, ask your contractor to design trendy and chic hideaways. Sliding marble or chrome panels can discreetly hideaway your appliances when not in use and portray a clean aesthetic without clutter.
  • Display Containers: There is no easier way to free up storage space than to store everything in decorative containers. You can store pasta, spices, flour and sugar, baking goods in classic jars and colored glass containers which you can display instead of piling up in the pantry. This will help you to free up storage space and add to the beauty and charm of your kitchen space.
  • Floating Cubbies: You’ve seen floating shelves, but you can also affix cubbies and free-floating small cabinets for a unique decorative touch as well as adding storage.
  • Add Shelving to your Backsplash: The backsplash behind your sink and under cabinets can be a great space for additional shelving. To keep things from looking too cluttered, use lucite or glass shelves and store your glassware.
  • Look Up Higher: So many kitchens these days have vaulted or cathedral ceilings. You can use the space above your traditional cabinets to install additional cabinet storage. This works especially well in country kitchens – just add a rustic sliding ladder to access those items which are only used once or twice per year.
  • Bench Seating: Many Venice homeowners use the aquarium glass nook in their kitchen for an eat-in dinette setup. Install comfortable bench seating and store all kinds of things underneath. These types of storage solutions are popular in the living room, why not in the kitchen?
  • Add an Antique: Vintage and country kitchens can easily house an antique bookcase or armoire that can double as storage. Not only does it add a charming touch aesthetically, they can hide a lot of your stuff. Do you have a more contemporary kitchen? No problem. Look for fun industrial pieces with shelving and prep space.

The options to add storage solutions to your kitchen are endless. Should you be looking to renovate your space with some of these ideas, give Kingdom Restoration a call. When it comes to transforming your space, we are the call to make.
